Accelerating Green Chemistry

At Hydro-Oxy we are a team of world-leading researchers based at the Cardiff Catalysis Institute, Cardiff University. Our goal is to revolutionise the chemical sector by developing sustainable routes to major commodity chemicals.

Our Value to Chemical Producers

Cost Efficiency

Reducing production costs by generating hydrogen peroxide in-situ.

Removing Risks Associated

Minimising risks associated with transport and storage of hydrogen peroxide.

Environmental Impact

Lowering emissions and reducing environmental footprint in chemical production.

Industry Innovation

Setting a new standard for efficient, sustainable chemical synthesis.

Decoupling chemical production from industrial routes to hydrogen peroxide.

The Challenge

Every year, nearly 2.5 million tons of hydrogen peroxide is used in chemical synthesis. A long-standing goal of catalysis has been to replace preformed hydrogen peroxide with that generated in-situ, which would lead to considerable improvements in process efficiency and safety, lower production costs and decrease emissions release. However, despite decades of research a viable in-situ alternative to current industrial oxidative processes has been lacking, with prior approaches typically hindered by low rates of conversion or poor selectivity toward desired products.

Million tons of hydrogen peroxide is used in chemical synthesis.

Our Solution

Our Award Winning Technology

Based on over 20 years of research, our catalytic technology is the first in-situ approach to chemical synthesis that rivals the performance metrics of the current state-of-the-art, industrial process, while also lowering production costs and environmental impact. Recognised as a scientific breakthrough it paves the way for cleaner, more efficient chemical synthesis sector and is a step towards a more sustainable future.
