We are thrilled to announce that the Cardiff Catalysis Institute at Cardiff University (Prifysgol Caerdydd) has been named a finalist in both the Research and Water categories of the prestigious Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Global Awards 2024. This recognition highlights our commitment to pioneering sustainable approaches to water disinfection, addressing urgent needs for cleaner, safer water treatment solutions.
Our ongoing research focuses on decentralized water disinfection, a transformative alternative to traditional, centralized treatment systems. By eliminating the need for chlorination and other chemical disinfectants, our approach significantly reduces the residual chemicals that often end up in treated water. This advancement not only enhances water quality but also supports environmental and human health by minimizing exposure to potentially harmful chemical byproducts.
This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without our valued collaborators, Origin Aqua—leaders in innovative water technology—and Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. Their support has been instrumental in driving our mission forward. We extend our gratitude to them and to the broader community supporting sustainable water technologies.
We look forward to celebrating this milestone with all the inspiring nominees at the IChemE Global Awards event in November. Good luck to all finalists, and thank you to IChemE for recognizing our work toward a more sustainable, chemical-free future in water treatment!
